CNBC International reports that the official website is offline.
The developer representing Wormhole confirmed the incident on his Twitter account, adding that the network is currently under repair while looking into potential exploits.
It says the thief managed to take 120,000 wETH (wrapped Ether) and the project team promises to add Ether in the next few hours ensuring wETH is supported 1:1 and getting the network back up and running.
According to an analysis from blockchain cybersecurity firm CertiK, the gains from the attack to date are around US$251 million (Rp 3.6 trillion) from Ethereum, US$47 million (Rp 676.1 billion) in Solana, and over US$4 million (Rp 57 million) .5 billion) in USDC.
According to CertiK, hackers managed to exploit a vulnerability on the Solana side of the bridge to make 120,000 Ethereum tokens 'wrapped' for themselves. It is pegged to the original coin value but can be operated with other Blockchains.
