Georgiva says the emergence of the omicron is at the root of the problem, plus the ability of one country to recover is very different.
"It looks like we're going to see a downturn in the [released] October forecast for global growth. [The new coronavirus strain] could very quickly dampen confidence," Georgiva told a conference on Friday.
It is worth noting that the IMF released its forecast for global economic growth as of October to reach 4.9 percent in 2022. Prior to that, the Washington-based funding agency had also cut its outlook for this year to 5.9 percent.
